As an organization that travels globally, you might expect that we have “seen it all.” Yes, we have experienced the amazing, rare, and unexpected, but we are also exposed to cultures that are faced with unfortunate circumstances. Whether it is an economic downturn, natural disaster, lack of food, clean water, or clothing, or a health epidemic, the sight of individuals in need or a destination struggling to improve their environment or combat social challenges, is something that continues to leave a lasting impression on the Valerie Wilson Travel team.
For the past 35 years, VWT has been committed to helping those in need and improving the world around us. It is ingrained in our culture and at times has hit too close to home, thus supports the quote, “Things happen for a reason.” Several years ago, our own leader, Valerie, suffered a heart attack. VWT has been committed to the American Heart Association’s “Go Red for Women” initiative and hosts tables at regional luncheons to bring awareness and support to combat cardiovascular disease. In addition, VWT employees collect donations by selling “Go Red For Women” pins.
There is more. Our company has empowered children with life-threatening diseases through Make-A-Wish Foundation, supported women suffering from breast cancer as a founding member of Pink Aid, raised awareness for men’s cancers through The Movember Foundation, and supported the travel and tourism industry’s philanthropic efforts through Tourism Cares, which carves the pathway to preserve and enhance travel for future generations. It is initiatives like these that bring VWT together, reminding us to be selfless, and put others needs before our own.
